Atelessala
Atelessala is a London-based artist working with stained glass.
Drawn to making and working with the hands, the work developed through a search for a medium capable of holding both structure and expression. Stained glass, with its balance of precision and material presence, became a natural point of focus.
Working within a medium historically rooted in European traditions, the work introduces a visual language informed by African forms and references. This approach is shaped by a mixed background, where different cultural influences naturally intersect and inform the direction of the work.
The first body of work, currently in development, draws from Gabonese mask traditions, reinterpreting their presence, structure, and symbolism through glass. This series will be released in the coming months.
Alongside these influences, the work engages with themes of wildlife, forests, water, and tropical landscapes, translating organic forms into light, colour, and composition.
Each piece is built through a direct and process-led approach, where material, structure, and expression come together.
